Serenity Stitch Co Didn't Begin With a Business Plan.
It began during a season when I was trying to find myself again.
After having my daughter, I found myself in the depths of postpartum depression and anxiety. Motherhood was beautiful, but it was also harder and more complicated than I expected. I needed a creative outlet and wanted a way to bring more awareness to maternal mental health, so on a whim, I bought an embroidery machine.
I had no idea how to embroider.
I taught myself one stitch at a time and began creating sweatshirts centered around mental health, hoping they might help others feel a little less alone.
I didn't know it then, but what started as something I needed would eventually grow into a way of creating for other mothers, too.
What Started as a Creative Outlet Became Something More.
From One Mother to Another
I began creating personalized newborn pieces for those first, fleeting moments. The outfit carefully chosen for coming home. A tiny name embroidered across something that will somehow look impossibly small a few months later.
Creating for other mothers made me think differently about the things we save.
Because sometimes it's not really about the outfit at all. It's about who wore it, when they wore it, and the season of life it brings you back to.
For the Pieces You Can't Let Go Of
That idea eventually led me to keepsake sweatshirts made with pieces of a child's outgrown clothing.
The onesie tucked away in a drawer. The pajamas they wore over and over. The tiny print you can still picture them in.
Instead of leaving them packed away, those fabrics can become part of something a mother can wear and keep close, carrying a little piece of that season with her.
For the Tender Memories, Too
Over time, I was trusted with something even more precious: clothing, crib sheets, and other treasured fabrics belonging to babies and loved ones who have passed.
Being trusted with something irreplaceable changes the way I approach the work.
I know the fabric in my hands may be one of the few tangible pieces a family has left of someone they love. I never take lightly what it means to be trusted with it.
Creating these pieces has become one of the most meaningful parts of this work.
The Remembrance Stitch
I created the Remembrance Stitch as a quiet way to honor babies lost through pregnancy or infant loss.
It's a small detail embroidered discreetly inside the sleeve of a keepsake sweatshirt. It isn't meant to be seen by everyone.
It's there for the mother wearing it.
A quiet reminder that her baby was here, is loved, and will always be part of her story.
Made in the Middle of Motherhood
Today, I'm raising my children while continuing to personally make each Serenity Stitch Co piece.
This business is built in the middle of real motherhood. There are interrupted workdays, late nights at my embroidery machine, changing family needs, and plenty of figuring things out as I go.
And I wouldn't separate the two even if I could.
